How to Reach Shillong:

  • By Air: The nearest airport is Shillong Airport (Umroi), about 30 km from the city. However, it has limited connectivity. The major nearest airport is Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (125 km), well connected with major Indian cities. From Guwahati, taxis are easily available to Shillong (approx. 3–4 hours drive).
  • By Train: Shillong does not have a railway station. The nearest station is Guwahati Railway Station (around 100 km away), connected to all major cities in India. From Guwahati, one can hire a taxi to Shillong.
  • By Road: Shillong is connected with Guwahati by NH 40. Various modes of transport including Shared taxis, Buses and private cabs ply on this route. Private taxis are the most convenient option for reaching Shillong, offering a comfortable and scenic journey.

  • Umiam Lake (Barapani): A sprawling man-made reservoir surrounded by pine-covered hills, Umiam Lake is a favorite spot for boating, kayaking, and picnics. Its tranquil setting and scenic sunsets make it one of the most photographed places near Shillong.
