How to Reach Pelling

  • By Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB), about 160 km away. From the airport, taxis can be hired to reach Pelling via Siliguri or Gangtok.
  • By Train: The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), approx. 152 km away. Taxis are available from NJP to Pelling.
  • By Road: Pelling is well connected by taxis from Gangtok (130 km, 5–6 hours), Darjeeling (73 km, 4–5 hours), and Kalimpong (90 km, 4–5 hours).

  • Pemayangtse Monastery: One of Sikkim’s oldest and most prestigious monasteries, belonging to the Nyingma sect. It houses ancient Buddhist scriptures, sculptures, and a rare wooden structure depicting ZangdokPalri (heavenly abode of Guru Padmasambhava). The monastery offers peace along with panoramic Himalayan views.
  • Khecheopalri Lake: A sacred lake believed to fulfill wishes, surrounded by forests and prayer flags. Both Buddhists and Hindus consider it holy. The lake is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with migratory species visiting seasonally.
