Arunachal Highlands with Kaziranga

BHALUKPONG 1N – DIRANG 2N – TAWANG 3N – BOMDILA 1N – KAZIRANGA 2N – GUWAHATI 2N

Day 01: Guwahati Arrival – Transfer to Tezpur

Approx Distance: 255 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 6 Hours

Meet and greet on arrival at Guwahati Airport / Railway Station and proceed towards Tezpur, the entry point to Arunachal Pradesh. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Evening is free for leisure to relax after the long drive.

Overnight Stay: Tezpur

 

Day 02: Tezpur – Transfer to Dirang

Approx Distance: 140 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 7 Hours

After early breakfast, drive towards Dirang. En route, visit the famous Tipi Orchidarium located on the banks of River Bharali, home to over 500 species of orchids, including several rare varieties. Arunachal Pradesh has the largest range of orchids in India. Later, take a break to visit Nag Temple. Continue the scenic drive through cascading waterfalls and breathtaking mountain landscapes.

On arrival at Dirang, check in to the hotel. In the afternoon, visit Apple Orchards and Kiwi Farms (subject to season), Dirang Monastery, and Kalachakra Monastery. Dirang is also known for its natural hot water springs, believed to have medicinal properties.

Note: All Indian tourists visiting Arunachal Pradesh must obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) at the Bhalukpong check-post by submitting a valid photo ID and two passport-size photographs.

 

Day 03: Dirang Sightseeing – Sangti Valley Excursion

Approx Distance: Local sightseeing

After breakfast, set out to explore Dirang. Visit traditional Monpa tribal villages to experience the local culture, village walks, and interactions with villagers. Proceed to the beautiful Sangti Valley, situated along the banks of the Sangti River, known as a seasonal habitat of the rare Black-Necked Crane that migrates from China and Ladakh.

Later, visit the National Research Centre on Yak, located above the main town, with an additional yak farm at Nyukmadung (subject to road and weather conditions). Continue sightseeing with visits to Apple Orchards and Kiwi Farms (subject to season), Li-ung Gonpa, and Kalachakra Monastery. Time permitting, enjoy a visit to the hot water springs.

Day 04: Dirang – Transfer to Tawang

Approx Distance: 130 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 7 Hours

After early breakfast, proceed towards Tawang, famously known as the Land of Hidden Paradise. En route, cross the majestic Sela Pass (13,700 ft.), the natural border between West Kameng and Tawang districts, and visit the scenic Sela Lake, which remains frozen for most of the year.

Continue to Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to the brave soldier of the 1962 Indo–China War. Later, visit the spectacular Nuranang (Jung) Falls, a popular filming location. Arrive at Tawang, check in to the hotel, and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Day 05: Tawang Local Sightseeing

Approx Distance: Local sightseeing

After breakfast, visit the world-famous 17th-century Tawang Monastery (Galden Namgyal Lhatse), overlooking the Tawang Valley at an altitude of 10,000 ft. It is the largest monastery in the Himalayan region and the second-largest in Asia, housing ancient scriptures, images, and a massive gilded Buddha statue.

Later, visit Urgeling Gompa, the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. Proceed to the Tawang War Memorial (Namgyal Chorten), a 40-foot-high stupa-like structure dedicated to the martyrs of the 1962 Sino–Indian War, with names engraved on black granite plaques. Visit the local craft centre for traditional masks, carpets, silver jewellery, and souvenirs. Evening at leisure.

Day 06: Tawang – Bumla Pass & High Altitude Lakes Excursion

Approx Distance: Approx. 80 Km • Estimated Travel Time: Full Day Excursion

After early breakfast, proceed for an excursion to the high-altitude Shonga-tser Lake, popularly known as Madhuri Lake, located near the Indo–China border. The drive offers scenic landscapes, old war bunkers, and stunning mountain views. The lake was formed after the 1950 earthquake and is surrounded by pristine natural beauty.

Continue further to Bumla Pass (15,200 ft.), subject to permit and weather conditions. During the return journey, stop at the scenic PTSO (Pangong Tang Tso) Lake for photography. Return to the hotel by afternoon. Evening at leisure.

Day 07: Tawang – Transfer to Bomdila

Approx Distance: 170 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 8 Hours

After breakfast, proceed towards Bomdila (8,200 ft.), the headquarters of West Kameng district, known for its Buddhist monasteries and panoramic Himalayan views. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Later, visit Gontse Rabgyaling Monastery (Upper Gonpa) and Thub-Chog Gatsel Ling Monastery (Lower Gonpa). Evening visit to the local market.

Overnight Stay: Bomdila

 

Day 08: Bomdila – Transfer to Kaziranga

Approx Distance: 210 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 8 Hours

After breakfast, proceed towards Kaziranga National Park. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Evening is free for leisure.

Day 09: Kaziranga National Park Safaris

Approx Distance: Local sightseeing

Early morning, enjoy an Elephant Safari in one of the zones of Kaziranga National Park, home to the One-Horned Rhinoceros along with wild buffaloes, swamp deer, elephants, and rich birdlife. Return to the hotel for breakfast. In the afternoon, enjoy a Jeep Safari inside the National Park.

Day 10: Kaziranga – Transfer to Guwahati

Approx Distance: 220 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 5 Hours

After breakfast, drive towards Guwahati. On arrival, check in to the hotel. In the evening, visit Kalakshetra, a cultural complex showcasing Assamese heritage, art, and traditions.

Overnight Stay: Guwahati

 

Day 11: Guwahati Local Sightseeing

Approx Distance: Local sightseeing

After breakfast, proceed for Guwahati city sightseeing including Kamakhya Temple, Tirupati Balaji Temple, Nabagraha Temple, Assam State Museum, State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, Regional Science Centre, and Sukreswar Temple (the 6th Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva).

In the evening, enjoy an optional sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra River (direct payment).

Day 12: Guwahati – Departure

Approx Distance: As per departure point

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey.
