Best of Tawang

TEZPUR 1N – DIRANG 1N – TAWANG 3N – BOMDILA 1N - GUWAHATI 2N

1st Day: Guwahati Arrival – Transfer to Tezpur 

Approx Distance: 255 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 6 Hours

Meet and greet on arrival at Guwahati Airport / Railway Station and proceed towards Tezpur. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Evening is free for leisure and relaxation after the long drive.

2nd Day: Tezpur – Transfer to Dirang

Approx Distance: 140 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 7 Hours

After early breakfast, proceed towards Dirang. En route, visit Tipi Orchidarium, located on the banks of the River Bharali, showcasing over 500 species of orchids, including rare varieties. Arunachal Pradesh is known to have the largest variety of orchids in India. Later, visit Nag Temple. Continue your scenic drive through beautiful waterfalls and mountain views. On arrival at Dirang, check in to the hotel. In the afternoon, visit Apple Orchards & Kiwi Farms (subject to season), Dirang Monastery, and Kalachakra Monastery. Dirang is also known for its hot water springs, where locals believe bathing helps cure skin ailments.

Note: All Indian tourists visiting Arunachal Pradesh are required to obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) at the Bhalukpong check-post against submission of a valid photo identity card and two passport-size photographs.

 

3rd Day: Dirang – Transfer to Tawang

Approx Distance: 130 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 7 Hours

After early breakfast, proceed towards Tawang, famously known as the Land of Hidden Paradise. En route, visit Sela Pass (13,700 ft), the natural border between West Kameng and Tawang districts, and the picturesque Sela Lake, which remains frozen for most of the year. Later, visit Jaswant Garh War Memorial, dedicated to the brave soldier who single-handedly resisted enemy forces during the 1962 Indo–China War. Continue to Nuranang (Jung) Falls, where scenes from the movie Koyla were filmed. Arrive at Tawang and check in to the hotel. Evening is free for leisure.

4th Day: Tawang Local Sightseeing

Approx Distance: Local sightseeing

After breakfast, visit the world-famous Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in the Himalayan region and the second-largest in Asia. Established in the 17th century, the monastery complex houses around 65 buildings, ancient scriptures written in gold letters, and an 8-meter-high gilded Buddha statue. Later, visit Urgeling Gompa, the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama, the only Indian-born Dalai Lama. Proceed to the Tawang War Memorial (Namgyal Chorten), dedicated to the martyrs of the 1962 Sino–Indian War, with names of 2,420 soldiers engraved on black granite plaques. Visit the local craft centre for traditional masks, carpets, silver jewellery, coral, amber items, and local dresses. Evening at leisure.

5th Day: Tawang – High Altitude Lakes & Bumla Pass Excursion

Approx Distance: 90 Km • Estimated Travel Time: Full day excursion

After early breakfast, proceed for an excursion to the high-altitude Sangetsar Lake, popularly known as Madhuri Lake, located about 35 km from Tawang near the Indo–China border. The scenic drive offers views of war bunkers used during the 1962 war. The lake was formed after the 1950 earthquake, with dead tree trunks still visible emerging from the water. The area is maintained by the Indian Army, with basic refreshment facilities available. Later, continue towards Bumla Pass (15,200 ft), situated around 37 km from Tawang at the Indo–China border (subject to army permission and weather conditions). During the return journey, enjoy a photo stop at PT Tso (Pangong Tang Tso) Lake. Return to Tawang by evening.

6th Day: Tawang – Transfer to Bomdila

Approx Distance: 170 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 8 Hours

After breakfast, proceed towards Bomdila (8,200 ft), the headquarters of West Kameng district, known for its pleasant climate and Buddhist monasteries. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Later, visit Gontse Rabgyaling Monastery (Upper Gonpa) and Thub-Chog Gatsel Ling Monastery (Lower Gonpa). Bomdila offers spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges. In the evening, visit the local market.

7th Day: Bomdila – Transfer to Guwahati

Approx Distance: 355 Km • Estimated Travel Time: 11 Hours

After breakfast, proceed towards Guwahati. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Rest of the evening is free for leisure.

8th Day: Guwahati Local Sightseeing

Approx Distance: Local sightseeing

After breakfast, proceed for Guwahati city sightseeing covering Kamakhya Temple, Tirupati Balaji Temple, Nabagraha Temple, Assam State Museum, State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, Regional Science Centre, and Sukreswar Temple (the sixth Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva). In the evening, guests may opt for a sunset river cruise on the Brahmaputra at direct payment.

9th Day: Guwahati – Departure

Approx Distance: As per departure point

After breakfast, transfer to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey.
